Aloha, Hawaii!

We are very
thankful for our safe arrival to Hawaii. God blessed our family with a
wonderful, safe trip across our great country ending in the newest state
of our union, Hawaii. We received a warm Aloha welcome from Karen's
sister-in-law Tana, cousins Tara, Kaylie, and Ben, and Kent's Navy sponsor
Neil. The leis, warm greetings and helping hands made a positive and
lasting first impression.
The first item
on our agenda was to get the children summer clothes and sandals. They
enjoyed shopping for their new play attire. The clothing is colorful and
certainly adequate in this mild climate. The laundry has decreased, too!
Once we fulfilled this promise, searching for a home became top priority.
The interesting twist to the transportation dilemma is the two car caravan
we're enduring until the suburban arrives.
For the first
eight days in Hawaii we spent nine to twelve hours a day searching
for suitable housing for the next several years. The Navy offered us newly
renovated quarters. We prayerfully considered our situation using the full
amount of time allotted for the decision, eventually declining the
home due to the small living area available for six active children. As
Kent wrote on the declining statement, "This is the nicest house the
Navy ever offered us. Had we only three children, it would have been
perfect. We prefer to keep all six children, so decline this home in order
that we may find a suitable home for all of us." Shortly thereafter,
we found a home that will work very well for our family. It also has a
guest room for those who wish to visit. Since the home will not be
available until July, we will be in temporary housing until then. We
have enjoyed hotel life, but living in a home were Karen can cook our
meals is being longed for by all the family.
Our drive
around the island has been wonderful, seeing the unique beauty God created
through the volcanoes. The mountains on the windward side can be compared
to none as their sharp curves stretching upward. The immense size and
beauty is difficult to describe - you will have to come visit to see for
yourself! The water is crystal clear with blue, green colors inviting our
little swimmers.
We have
worshipped with new friends at the Leeward Community Church. Each Sunday
we found friendly people who love the Lord and went out of their way to
welcome us. These local people who have lived here for all or most
of their lives have been very helpful in helping us get settled.
