Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, Florida (2/9/00)

Waking up to
62 degrees on the "Space Coast", we decided to enjoy our
breakfast on Cocoa Beach. We found a picnic table near the sand dunes
where we enjoyed yogurt, muffins, bananas and fresh orange juice. With a full day ahead of
us, we hurried to the space center even though the
children wanted to "test" the water.
The last time
our family was at the space center there was only two of us -
Kent and Karen. Since that visit there have been many improvements to the
Kennedy Space Center visitor tour. It was a very educational experience seeing many exhibits
supplemented with short videos. One new addition was the Saturn V rocket building. It was truly amazing to see an actual rocket -
the massive structure was overwhelming. Standing next to it helped us
understand just how BIG these engineering marvels are. Our Photo Album
pages shows pictures of the tour.
A 3D IMAX
movie, "L5", was the highlight at the end of our tour. The children had never
experienced an IMAX movie or a 3D movie. The words to describe the event
from Grant is, "That was cool!" Victoria and Spencer were pulled
back into their seats several times as they stood up trying to touch the plants,
people or animals that were coming toward them. One time, Spencer stepped so far
out of his seat that he just missed falling over the people's heads in front of
him.
Our day ended
with a visit with Linnell and Martha Davis, our dear missionary friends
who served in Kenya most of their lives. The reunion was sweet. We are
glad the Davis's could meet all our children. We are thankful to God for
the opportunity to expand the cross-country trip southward since it enable
us to see them before we left the east coast.
