Kent's Meritorious Service Medal (5/15/00)

The whole
family was happy to attend the ceremony were Kent was officially presented
the Meritorious Service Medal. This award was given to him for his
outstanding performance at his last job in Groton, Connecticut.
During the
ceremony his new Commanding Officer (CO), Captain Conners, emphasized how
special and rare it is that this award is given to a Lieutenant Commander. He
explained that this award is usually given to submarine CO's and
aircraft carrier engineering officers - a full Commander billet.
Although the
award was given due to Kent's outstanding performance in Groton, I must
mention that his last CO, Captain Heffron, was a great boss to work for. He
was not only willing to give Kent the challenging jobs that enabled Kent
to do well, but he was very caring about the family. He did not hesitate
to check with Kent to make sure the family was being taken care of. When
time off was needed to take care of the family, Captain Heffron fully
supported Kent's request. The working relationship was two ways which made
it enjoyable to serve under Captain Heffron. My sincere "Thank
You" goes to him.
The support
from Dave and others in the Quality Assurance Department must, also, be
mentioned. The strong support of all the TEAM MEMBERS was appreciated by
Kent. The job can easily be described as "a lot of fun" getting
work accomplished with the men and women at NAVSEA Groton.
Very
respectfully to all, Karen
