Gila Cliff
Dwellings National Monument
New Mexico 2/20/00)
The
road to the Gila cliffs was 34 miles long over very steep terrain with
many switchbacks up and down the mountains. It took about 1 1/2 hours to
make the journey back into time where these stone structures were built
in the late 1200s. The children participated in the Junior Ranger
Program, took the pledge and received their badges.

This cave is the
largest of those used by the ancient Anasazi as they occupied this area.
Possibly as many as 70 people occupied these cliff dwellings for a generation.
