Our family in front of one of the
"Mighty Giants." It is amazing that these trees live 500 - 700
years (some up to 2000 years) as they withstand the high winds coming off of the
Pacific Ocean. These
trees have no tap root - a long root that is at the center and goes way
down into the ground. All the roots on Coastal Redwoods grow close to the
surface and out away from the tree. It not uncommon to see fallen giants
in the forests.
