White Sands
National Monument
New Mexico (2/19/00)
We arrived at the
White Sands National Monument in the late afternoon. We were going to
pass by due to the time, but decided to stop. We are glad we did!
This "winter wonderland" of white sand truly displays the
beauty our God wanted us to enjoy in His creation. The ground gypsum producing the pure white color in the sand is
amazing.
We went
on two hikes that put us in the middle of a big sand box. The children
had fun in the big playground.
The sand looks just
like snow. As you can see
in the picture to the right that mound of white stuff along the side of
the road looks like snow but of course is sand. The park service plows
the drifting sand just as the highway workers in New England plow the
snow!
The children were
happy they had time to complete their third Junior Ranger program.
(As of today, March
7, we will be posting more photos.)
